During the last session at the Florence Art Academy, I decided to go digital, mainly because it was easier for me to carry only the tablet. But anyway, you have to practice something if you want to get some juice...
Here is the first drawing (03/02) with the major steps divided per layers:
And the final result. I worked the right one after the two hours from memory, to experiment with the program Artrage:
On 11/02 I wanted to try "direct painting" and this was the result. I tryed to use thicker painting and to define form with brushstroke.
And the last one of 18/02. I tried to be more systematic with this and the result was better. Loking at the following picture, I sketched the gesture, refined the contour, studied a bit of anatomy, and began the shading.
The last 45 minutes I devoted myself to painting with colour. I used oil painting in Artrage, as I did for the shadows. Thicker painting but still quite diluted for the light and haltones.
I'm quite happy with this, I felt the potential of this kind of approach!! You can study on separate layers and so you can avoid the mess on the paper (especially if you are not tidy as me). The specific tools of the program are funny and allow interesting effects from the visual point of view.
