Hello, a couple of drawings I made at Florence art academy during the last months.
I used graphite to tone the paper for this guy...and charcoal for drawing; it was not so wise, it was better to only one or the other. Graphite is not so easily erasable, moreover charcoal has less grip on it. Anyway, the second:
I made only this the first twenty minutes. I was satisfied with balance and gesture, so I tried to zoom in and not to draw the whole figure... I wanted to study bigger picture and simpler parts (I think the whole figure is harder to face)
I am not satisfied with the likeness, I spent time and patience on the face but the girl was another .. the head is too small moreover. I also used white pastel to enanche the light..
Here is the sketch I made on 14th of January.
I'm more happy with this one. Only pencil on my Fabriano Sketchbook. I can work e think more about separation between dark and light. In fact the body si usually well lit during these sessions, with a lot of middle tones to manage. The form could be tought better in terms of separation between light and shadow planes; but I have to learn to see them better...
And the last, the one I made on 28th January. I used only my tablet to paint it digitallly. I was searching to line up the process and the study, to better understand anatomy and human form.
1) Quick gesture and contour. 2) Refined Contour and little development of the planes 3) Rough bones. 4) Trying to see if the light builds up some planes.
And finally I tryed to paint it digitally...
The time was short, I'm sorry that I couldn't bring this much further. But anyway I think it's a valueable and practical method to study and learn, because you can focus on one problem per time and work on it on separate layer to trace the procedure. You can correct fast without wearing out the paper. Yes, you need practice to handle the medium, and yes, the traditional method is more rewarding... for now ;)
