Life Drawing 22/10

Hello!! New year at the Florence Academy!! They are so kind that allow external people to attend a couple of hours of a posing model. This time I tested spolvero paper with a set of hard sticks brown pastel from Lyra. I should have drawn the entire body, but I preferred to make a portrait, because I was in a favorable position in regard of the model's face and also I wanted to warm up with something I'm more confortable with, that is the portrait. So first hour I was standing in front of the easel drawing the head, second hour I was sitting and sketching the whole body..

Here is the head (the photo is cut, about 15x15 cm the ideal square containing the head)

The feeling of the pastels is quite good, they are a bit waxy, they don't smudge easily. The paper is cheap, but does its work. I could have used the withe for highlights on it, but I wanted to shift to figure after an hour of portrait.

And this is the study for the figure

I used the plumb line at a certain point, almost with sight size method. That was useful for the proportion, altough I had to "carve" the figure on the border, instead of precise placement from the beginning, becuse of my scarce accuracy...Not to speak about the usual difficulties with legs, feet, and hands.  Anyway, this is the work of another hour. The figure's height is about 20 cm.
